Say AHHH!

Open wide! It’s not always the most noticeable feature of your birds, but if you’ve ever gotten a good look at the mouth you may have seen it. Birds have a V-shaped slit with frilled edges. This is called the choana. This acts as a barrier between the bird's nasal passage and their throat. If your bird is experiencing dietary issues or bacterial issues, this area of the mouth is going to be the first dead giveaway of any issues that may be developing. Nero, our store Black Palm Cockatoo, was kind enough to let me get a good photo of his choana to show you!
