The Importance of DNA Sexing your bird.

Most species of parrots are not sexually dimorphic, meaning you cannot know if you have a male or female bird just by their appearance. Knowing the sex of your bird can be crucial for providing the best care. Overall, males and females can have different nutritional and environmental needs, especially during breeding seasons. Sex-specific health issues, like egg-binding in females, can also be life-threatening if not addressed early or when calcium isn’t readily available. Another reason knowing the sex can be important is to help you understand their behavior, such as hyper-aggression, panting or even territorial actions (such as getting protective over cabinets, couches, etc.).

We offer DNA sex testing for just $35 to help you ensure your bird gets the care they deserve. This is a very quick and non-invasive test where we take a blood sample from their toenail and send to a lab for testing. Results are usually available within 14 days. You can schedule your bird’s DNA test at: https://sbf.portal.gingrapp.com
